West Texas v New York City

Moving back to West Texas after living in New York was a bit of a culture shock. It was difficult at first, but I managed to slow down my pace of life to enjoy my time at home. It was a nice reminder of why I loved growing up in a small town. Each place is charming in its own way.

West Texas:
  • Headlining news stories include how "one local man thinks the US census is invasive"
  • Everyone drives everywhere, even .25 miles to my sister's house
  • Organic? What's that?
  • Recycling? Are you a Liberal?
  • Weekend entertainment includes my nephews' ball games and sometimes this
  • Sex offender registry map has a few red dots on the other side of the railroad tracks
  • Gossiping neighbors
  • Skyscraper:

New York City
  • Headlining news stories include the numerous murders that occurred that day, to the point where I had a daily count as they were reported
  • Everyone walks everywhere
  • Organic? There's a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods in every neighborhood
  • Recycling? Every apartment complex has the bins
  • Weekend entertainment includes this, this, and sometimes this
  • Sex offender registry map is solidly covered by red dots
  • Naked creepy neighbors, remember here
  • Skyscrapers:
