The Los Angeles County Museum of Art awarded me my geekiest moment yet. While wandering through various exhibits, I spotted a John Chamberlain piece and freaked out. Seth can vouch.
Chamberlain is best known for his huge pieces of crumpled auto parts. One of his largest exhibits is housed in the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, TX, which I blogged about
here. He was also an inspiration to Stanley Marsh of Amarillo, TX (hometown shout-out) to create Cadillac Ranch in the 1970s. While I felt geeky offhand recalling this background info, I felt really cool at the same time. Maybe I felt cultured, which I happen to associate with cool...

My favorite exhibit at the LACMA was Metropolis II by Chris Burden. "The noise, the continuous flow of the trains, and the speeding toy cars, produces in the viewer the stress of living in a dynamic, active and bustling 21st Century city." Hot Wheels and model trains zipped through elaborate sky scrappers in a layered fashion. The only building I recognized was the Eiffel Tower, however, I suspect that other buildings were inspired by real skyscrapers.
