The Windy City

I am moving the Chicago for work later this year. It's called the "Windy City" mainly from arrogance of politicians and maybe some wind coming off of Lake Michigan. I have found that many Texans don't know this.

Before I get to the punchline, I need to make 2 important points.
  1. I have been spending a good amount of time at home in West Texas, and it is really windy here.
    • Exhibit A. West Texas is currently home to the largest wind farm in America.
    • Exhibit B. I have witnessed semi-trucks blown off the road or flipped solely from the wind.
    • Exhibit C. Last week when it was windy, my sister and I were dropped off 7 miles in the country and ran home with the wind pushing us. I ran a minute and a half faster per mile than my normal pace. 1:30 PER MILE! Needless to say, I PR-ed, but I don't really know if it counts.
    • Exhibit D. Today the wind is blowing 50 MPH.
  2. My mom had me late in life (at a mere 42); therefore, she is older than my friends' mothers, and sometimes older than my friends' grandmothers. Since I've had a lifetime of experience interacting with this age group, I know how to make jokes that appeal to them (aka CHEESY).
When my mom's friends have asked me about moving to Chicago, they usually try to impress me with their knowledge that it's called the "Windy City." I don't have the heart to correct them about the meaning, so the joke I have shamelessly used over and over again goes something like this... "I can tell people in Chicago that I'm from the real 'Windy City'." They eat. it. up. Every time I say it, I wonder how somebody thinks it's funny. Maybe I'm just getting a courtesy laugh...
