Keep it in the Family

My older sister runs; therefore, I run. I was at a young and impressionable age when she became a cross country superstar, and I wanted to be just like her. I never became a superstar, but I picked up a knack for endurance. My sister and I would run races together regularly, then I went to college. (Insert witty comment about how college created Boozin' Susan.) My weekends were filled with other adventures that didn't involve long runs. I managed several cool races in college, but none with my sister.

The Chilly Hilly Half Marathon has a deceiving name. It was hot and miserable, not "chilly." My feet were burning from the hot asphalt, the hills were making me think, "f-me," every time I saw the next one, and I wasn't sweating (actually getting chills) from heat exhaustion and lack of water stops. I will never run this race again. It was horrible. We didn't even get a finisher's medals at the end.

I can't keep up with my older sister, even after 3 kids. She's a supermom and an impressive athlete rolled into one. The next race we run together will be fun. Maybe destination? Maybe Disney Princess Half?

Obviously talking about the GIANT hills.

The only reason I'm smiling is because I
know I never have to run this race again.
