Today is July 25, which is the Day of Saint James, the patron saint of Spain. I'm staying at Albergue Santa Maria run by nuns in Carrion de los Condes. There is a small group of five nuns that stayed on the Camino to specifically care for the pilgrims. They invited each pilgrim to a variety of activities including, vespers (evening prayers), worship, a classical guitar concert, pilgrim's mass, and family dinner. I was zealous and went to all of it!
What a day! The nuns have hearts to serve, and they lead their lives through love. They treated us as royalty. As soon as we walked through the door, they served us tea and melon. They blessed each one of us during pilgrim's mass. They made a feast of food and ate after we had all been served. They sat next to us eager to listen to our stories. I will always remember this special place and these special nuns.
