Austin Gorilla Run
Do you care about saving endangered species? Do you like to dress up? Do you like to run? Do you like to kill three birds with one stone?
I answered YES to all of the above, and in return I got the Austin Gorilla Run. It benefits the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund and takes place annually in numerous (cool) cities around the world. Austin was competing for the Guinness Book of World Records' most amount of people dressed up in gorilla costumes in one place, but Denver narrowly won.
It was the funniest race I've ever participated in. I could not stop laughing the entire 3.1 miles. However, I was not laughing at the chaffing on my legs from the costume. Note to self: wear tights rather than Nike shorts underneath.

Half-Marathoning
Last Sunday (2/19) I, along with several good friends, ran the LIVESTRONG Austin Half-Marathon. The weather was perfect: sunny, no wind, and cool temps. My favorite part was the Yellow Mile at mile 10. It was a screaming tunnel full of familiar faces from LIVESTRONG and Texas 4000, and it gave me chills. Lance (not Armstrong), the Texas 4000 Program Director, ran beside me just to get a side-hug. It was a first, but I loved it.
2 things are for certain: I love running, and I hate cancer. I've run Austin before, but it was before LIVESTRONG was the headliner. Now, this is the perfect half for me. "Why I Run" and "Survivor" signs hung on the back of participants' shirts. INSPIRATIONAL.
While I have completed a marathon before (at the age of 17. Who does that?), I much prefer half-marathons. It's half the distance and double the fun. Literally.

Remember Dirty Steve?
Dirty Steve is a real person. He coined the name himself, and he hosts karaoke at Posse East in Austin, TX on Tuesday nights. Murderhaus frequented Dirty Steve Karaoke until one night when shit got WEIRD. Dirty Steve invited my roommates and me over to his place to pre-game for karaoke the following week. We kindly declined fearing Rohypnol. Danielle then asked for a picture with him. Dirty Steve went in for a kiss. Danielle slapped his face away. CLICK--the camera captured it. We left immediately. I haven't seen Dirty Steve since the night of the incident. I hear he's "clean shaven" Steve now.

Big Bend National Park (pt IV)
We encountered one, maybe two groups on every other trail we hiked. We encountered a party in the hot springs. Needless to say, the springs were my favorite part of Big Bend. It was relaxing after a long day and fun to meet new friends. Janky (I almost cut my leg on rusty pipes), yes, but I definitely suggest it. Everyone soaking was full of stories from their day(s) camping/hiking, so the conversation was great! I love how Texas brings out the friendliest in people. We even had a race across the Rio Grande and back.

Marfa, TX (pt I)
Last week I road-tripped to West Texas with 2 of my college roommates and best friends, Danielle and Emily.
Our first adventure: Prada Marfa. An art installment by Elmgreen and Dragset (2005), this piece is a "pop architectural land art project." Surrounded by the Davis mountains, it was a sight to behold. We loved every minute of it.
